In this book it's about a group of college students, minus a 16-year-old girl, Meg, that goes on a missions trip to Mexico. In one part of the book, that college kids interrogates Meg on why she's chosen not to date, just for the sake of dating. And she had these analogies that I loved regarding her idea of dating, that was sooo similar to my outlook on dating.
- In the book one of the charaters says, "How do you know what you're going to want in a husband if you don't date." and she responded by looking at those that she looks up to and watching from her friends and families experiences. "I've watched others get hurt. I've tried to learn from their experiences so I can protect myself."
- And the character said, "Dating is like test driving a couple of caries before you know which one is right for you to buy." and Meg responded, "except that is more like you take a trip all the way to Florida and drop it back at the dealer's full of your garbage and with 10,000 miles off the odometer and tell him you don't want it after all and then ask him for a new car."
- One of the character says, "...dating relationships are more like test marriages." and Meg responded, "that usually end in divorce... when you give your heart away every time you have a relationship with someone and by the time you get a husband, there may be little less." Other character says, "don't you think theree's a possibility with every person you date [to get married]?" Meg responds, "no matter what happens, there are two ends to dating. Either you break up or get married- I don't want to share myself and learn of all his likes and dislikes, or spend hours a day dreaming of getting married to someone, if he ends up marrying someone else.
And my favorite one...
- "Most people, especially Christians see marriage- and dating- as a right, but they are gifts. I don't go out and buy my presents and Christmas, my parents give them to me. I can give God a list of things I want to have in a husband, but ultimately He's the one who chooses the package. He doesn't need me opening presents that belong to other women. I don't even think he wants me peeking under the paper. I'm just going to wait til God sends me someone that has 'For Meg' on it."
And the book is amazing! Highly suggest it!
